Individual Psychotherapy
Individual therapy is a personalised and confidential process where individuals work one-on-one with Dr. Susannah Melville to explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. This type of therapy provides a safe space to address personal challenges, such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or self-esteem issues. By understanding the root causes of these concerns, therapy helps individuals develop healthier coping mechanisms and gain insights that lead to personal growth and emotional well-being. It is tailored to each person’s unique needs, ensuring a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
Through individual therapy, clients can identify patterns that may be holding them back, work through difficult emotions, and set goals for positive change. Dr Melville draws from a range of ‘evidence based practice’ and ‘practice based evidence’ as well as clinical wisdom to devise individualised treatment plans to guide the process. Whether addressing immediate issues or exploring deeper aspects of identity and life purpose, individual therapy is a powerful tool for building resilience, fostering self-awareness, and enhancing overall quality of life.
Approach
Susannah uses a systemic approach and ‘clinical wisdom’ drawing from years of experience working both privately and in the NHS. In her work she typically has three phases all within a safety frame. Firstly, the aim is to join with the client(s) and ‘deconstruct’ the difficulties that are brought into therapy. Secondly collaboratively with the client(s) a process of making sense takes place before moving on to the final phase of therapy that is ‘reconstruction’, leaving unwanted patterns behind and adding in more useful ways of being, that have been identified during the process.
